Building for the Future: Work Begins on Our Lodge Extension

Lodge Extension

Saturday, 19th July 2025 marked a significant milestone in the history of St Johnston 281 as work officially commenced on our much-anticipated Lodge and Chapter Room extension. It was a day that perfectly embodied the spirit of our Craft, bringing together brethren in common labour for the betterment of our Masonic home.

A Strong Start Under Expert Guidance

The day began with careful planning and preparation under the experienced guidance of Terrence and Craig Milligan, whose leadership proved invaluable in setting the tone for what would become a remarkably productive first day. Their supervision ensured that every task was approached with the precision and attention to detail that such an important project demands.

The three photographs posted alongside this update tell the story far better than words alone could convey. The visible progress achieved in just one day stands as testament to what can be accomplished when brethren unite in common purpose, each contributing their skills and energy to a shared vision.

The Spirit of Brotherhood in Action

Our dedicated Hall Maintenance Team rose to the occasion magnificently, demonstrating once again why the bonds of Masonic brotherhood extend far beyond the lodge room. Leading this effort were Worshipful Brothers Nigel Buchanan, Sam Waterworth, Tommy Connor, Marshall Robinson, and Phillip Robinson, whose experience and dedication have long been pillars of strength for our lodge complex.

Joining them in this important work were two of our newest brethren, Brothers Stephen McGill and Andy, whose enthusiasm and commitment to their new Masonic home was evident throughout the day. Their participation perfectly illustrates how quickly new members become integral parts of our lodge family, contributing not just their presence but their skills and energy to our collective endeavours.

More Than Just Bricks and Mortar

Watching our brethren work together on this project brings to mind the fundamental principles of our Craft. Here was operative Masonry in its truest sense, with each brother contributing according to his ability, all working toward a common goal that will benefit generations of Masons to come.

The teamwork, energy, and commitment displayed throughout the day exemplified exactly what makes St Johnston 281 such a special place. This wasn’t merely about extending a building; it was about strengthening the foundations of our brotherhood and creating space where future generations will gather to learn, grow, and serve.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate this excellent beginning, we recognise that this is just the first step in what will be an ongoing project. The strong foundation laid today, both literally and figuratively, sets the stage for the continued development of our Masonic complex.

To everyone who contributed to making this first day such a success, our heartfelt gratitude extends not only for the physical work accomplished but for the example set. You have shown that when brethren unite in common cause, remarkable things can be achieved.

The extension of our Lodge and Chapter Room represents more than additional space; it symbolises our commitment to the future of Masonry at St Johnston 281. With such dedicated brethren leading the way, we can look forward with confidence to the completion of this important project and the many years of Masonic activity it will facilitate.

Work has begun, and with it, a new chapter in the continuing story of our beloved lodge.
