This morning, Lodge 281 St Johnston opened its doors for one of the most rewarding events on our calendar. The annual charity breakfast brought the community together over a table of good food, good company, and a shared purpose. By the time the last cup of tea was poured, donations had reached close to £/€2000.
That figure tells part of the story. The rest of it happened in the kitchen.
All Hands to the Work
From early morning, brethren were on their feet cooking, serving, washing up, and making sure every guest felt welcome. There were no spectators today. Members who rarely miss a chance to sit down were found with an apron on, sleeves rolled up, doing whatever needed doing.
That spirit is not unique to Lodge 281, but it is something we are proud of. Freemasonry under the Irish Constitution has always placed a strong emphasis on practical charity and service. This morning was a fine example of both.
A Crowd That Filled the Room
Turnout was substantial. The hall was full, the atmosphere was warm, and the conversations across the tables reflected exactly what this kind of event is about. Old friendships were renewed. New ones were started. Bellies were well filled.
For many guests, it was their first time seeing the lodge in action in a community setting. We hope it will not be their last.
The Recipe Book on Sale
Copies of our Lodge 281 Festive Board Recipe Book were available on the day and proved popular. The book brings together recipes from brethren and friends of the lodge and makes a fitting reminder of the morning. The Donations
Every penny raised goes directly to local charitable causes. We will confirm the final total once all donations have been counted, but with nearly £/€2000 collected on the day, we are delighted with the generosity shown by everyone who attended.
